What is Toenail Fungus?
Toenail fungus, medically known as Onychomyosis, is a fungal infection that can affect one or more nails. Toenail fungus spreads to other nails or from person to person. Toenail fungus looks thick and discolored with debris under the nails.
How to Treat Toenail Fungus
Toenail fungus has historically been hard to treat. Topical treatments are often ineffective because the infection is under the nail, and oral medications often come with potentially unpleasant or harmful side effects. But now there is new hope. Laser treatment is an in-office procedure for toenail fungus that is 85% effective, FDA-approved, and best of all painless. Our office has a state-of-the-art machine that shines a beam of light on the affected nail, and soon your nail will be healing and growing a clear new nail.

Tips for Clear Nails
- Avoid walking barefoot in public gyms, showers, even hotel rooms.
- Air out shoes in the sun: Sunshine kills fungus. By the same token, let the sun hit your toenails: wear sandals in the summer.
- Change socks often, especially if your feet sweat a lot.
- Get to know your pedicurist: make sure they clean their instruments after each client.
- If you live with someone who has nail fungus, avoid walking barefoot in the same places. Wear socks and/or household slippers and clean the shower after each of you uses it.
